- General guidelines for buying art :

- Unless you possess extraordinary knowledge about the art you are
about to buy there are some guidelines which will fit any art purchase.

- 1.) Your initial reaction to the art should guide you in
final selection. If you were drawn to it initially than you will probably continue to
appreciate it through your years of ownership.

- 2.) Check the artwork carefully for any flaws which
might have escaped you when first seen. Even reliable dealers may not have
discovered minor flaws in a quality piece.

- 3.) Try to deal only with reliable dealers. One
indicator of a reliable dealer is the length of time he has been in business. This
certainly does not mean that new businesses are not reliable but the longer one has been
in business without problems the more likely he is to have a good reputation.

- 4.) Be wary of dealers who have the most, the best and
the cheapest.Very rarely does an honest dealer promote their business on such claims.
Quality is much more important then quantity when shopping for art.

- 5.) Request a written guarantee of authenticity on any
art which you buy. If the dealer refuses, don't buy from him.

- 6.) Look for independent means of identifying
the artist of a particular work.(i.e. hallmarks, signatures and etc.)

- 7.) Always request and keep the receipt of purchase.
