American Classic Trade Blankets - Navajo Basket Blanket
Size: 64" x 80" Material: 82% New Zealand Wool 18% Cotton
Zuni Trade Blanket
This design is a rare artifact of the golden age of Indian trade blankets, 1892 to 1930. Navajo rug weavers celebrated the design elements of the Anasazi, including the interlocking claw found on Southwestern pottery dating back to 1200 BP, as well as in Aztec and Mayan art.
Like virtually every Capps design, this blanket features elements created of 90 degree angles. In this case, the rows of interlocking claws are displayed as mirror images, creating dramatic bands set in high contrast to the background.
Fitted as a jacket, these bands, placed vertically, would lengthen the form, creating a slender profile. The fine wool and tight weave give this blanket great softness and depth. Though timeless, the clean lines of this design make it a perfect compliment to even the most modern home. Made In China.
