Circa 1960's Large Navajo Turquoise Bracelet

SKU: OJBR003
  • $1,399.00

This is a very large bracelet spanning 3" for the center medallion and 2 1/2" for each of the side medallions. The bracelet is constructed using very heavy gauge silver twist wire with the turquoise and silver medallions being soldered to the wire. Each of the three stone bezels is handmade with a row of twisted wire around it followed by a row of beaded wire. The final row of decoration is handstamped domed appliques almost resembling sections of bows. Each of the side medallions are made in the same manner as the central medallion.

The turquoise is a very pleasing blue with brown throughout, very likely Bissbee.

The bracelet also looks to have remnants of corn meal in the crevices between design elements. Old Navajo were known to store there jewelry in corn meal which would help eliminate oxidation of the silver.

Bracelet is 5.75" tip to tip with a 1.5" gap fitting a wrist circumference of up to 7.25". Bracelet weighs 175 grams, is unmarked sterling silver and has no artist hallmarks.
