Pendleton Rio Concho Pillow - Aqua: A great accent to the Rio Concho saddle blanket. The Concho River in West Texas was named for the freshwater mussel shells found along its banks. Concho means “shell” in Spanish. The mussel shells were found by the Spanish who explored the area in 1540. Some say it was Franciscan Fathers who later visited the area and named the north branch of the Concho the Rio Concho or River of Shells. Today, concho refers to the embossed shell-shaped metal pieces that decorate Western belts and jewelry. These were the inspiration for this striking blanket pattern with three stylized conchos as the focal point.
