The Pendleton Jicarilla blanket is a celebration of the Jicarilla Apaches and their basket making tradition. "Jicarilla" which means little basket continue their basket making tradition today. Traditionally the baskets are made by women who collect sumac and willow branches to incorporate into their baskets. The branches are often dyed using local vegetation. Traditionally the Jicarilla were hunter gatherers who occupied what is now know as Colorado, New Mexico and parts of Oklahoma and Texas. Their migration throughout this region was determined by game and seasonal changes. Today Jicarilla Apache baskets are some of the most sought after baskets by collectors. Available in this size only.
