Pendleton Spirit Peaks Blanket
The Pendleton Spirit Peaks Blanket is their rendition of an Navajo rug honoring the four Sacred Mountains of Navajo lore. These four mountains, which surround the Navajo home land, each represent a direction and color. Mount Blanca (White Shell Peak) to the east in Colorado, Mount Taylor ( Blue Turquoise) to the south in New Mexico, San Francisco Peak (Yellow Abalone) to the west in Arizona and finally Mount Hesperus (Black Jet Mountain) in north in Colorado. The stepped patterns represent the mountains while arrow designs are woven within the red bands (items of protection).
