Pendleton Churro Saddleblanket
A very strking pattern woven from the wool of "Churro Sheep". The Churro sheep were the original wool providers for Navajo weavers in the early phase of rug weaving. Churro sheep were originally imported into the New World by Spainish explorers and Missionaries during the discovery and settlement of North America. Churro sheep had all disappeared in the Southwest until several projects were begun in the 80's to import more and strengthen the numbers that still existed. The wool of Churro sheep is thought by many to be much more suitable of Navaho weavings then our domestic breeds.
