Pendleton Arrow Revival Blanket

Often a true flying arrow would determine the success of a hunt. The families involved in the Cheyenne Arrow Renewal ceremony would come together and arrange their tepees in a circle. Inside the circle of tepees the families built three ceremonial lodges: Sacred Arrow Lodge, Sacred Arrow Keeper's Lodge, and Offering gLodge. Each of these lodges were home to rituals that cleansed the four Sacred Arrows, the holy conduit of Cheyenne spiritual and tribal identity. A strong warrior then tied the revived arrows to his lance and then carried them into battle. The Pendleton Arrow Revival is based on a design from the 1920s discovered in Pendleton's archives.
