While the buffalo is not typically associated with Navajo culture ,Navajo artist Andrew Hobson discovered a story of how the buffalo evolved in Navaho Creation stories. The original story has the Buffalo becoming angry with the Holy Man because he had taken two buffalo worn as his wives. An indignant Hoy Man than killed the angry buffalo with his wands and arrows. Once the Buffalo died all the other buffalo began to dye as well which made the Holy Man sad. Holy man than brought the Buffalo back to life and taught him how to revive the rest of the buffalo. The central figure of the design shows the angry buffalo in fractured pieces to symobilze his death and later journey back to life. Four buffalo tribes are represented inside the protective medicine hoops and the four sacred mountain ranges of the Navaho surrond the fractured buffalo. Hobson has framed the design with an abstract rainbow representing his personal Yei, a Navajo protective diety. The original painting done by Andrew Hobson is titled Buffalo-Who-Never-Dies.
